PAGE TWO EGYPTIAN TEMPLES
The common courtyard was where the common people could come to worship. There the commoners prayed and
offered sacrificies to the many different gods of Egypt. While the temple was dedicated to a particular god, other
gods could be worshiped here as well. These were not jealous gods. (This picture shows the inside of the common
courtyard looking back at the temple's entrance)

There are two designs for columns used in the temples, the papyrus flower (left) which was the symbol of Lower
Egypt, and the lotus flower (right) which was the symbol of Upper Egypt.
Going through a smaller pylon, is the entrance to the Nobles Court.
The Nobles Court was the place where the high ranking noble men would come
to worship. They held important political meetings and state functions here as well.
