UNDER STANDING THE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN'S WORSHIP TEMPLES!

Anthropology project : created by Kryss Kartchner

The above picture is of the worship temple on Philae Island . The Egyptians had funeral and burial temples as well. The funeral and burial temples were used strictly for the burial of the royalty and the divine pharoahs, but the worship temples were used only to worship the gods. The worship temples you will see are Karnak, Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae Island.

All worship temples had a processional pathway. This processional pathway which began at Luxor Temple, and ran to Karnak is one of the most famous processional pathways. These statues of rams lead up to the temple's entrance, marked off by large pylons. This path leads directly through the temple and in to a room deep in the heart of the temple, which is the most sacred part of any worship temple.

This picture from the temple at Edfu, is another example of the large pylons which mark the begining of every temple. On the other side of the pylons is the "common court yard."
