ENTERING THE UPPER CASTLE COMPLEX
The inner tower that protected the entrance into
the upper castle and keep area.
The upper castle and keep formed the heart of the
eastern defenses in medieval times.
The great gun turret was added in the 1600s. The inner entrance of the keep was guarded
by this inner gate tower.
A court yard surrounded the keep. A wall surrounded the court yard.
Today, only the lower parts of this wall are left.
