The Villa Rustica ruins are owned by the town of Wachenheim. Volunteers maintain the site and are called the "Forderkreis Villa Rustica" which means Patrons of the Villa Rustica. The Wachenheim Townhall phone number is 06322-95800. A group of Germans have formed a society of the Roman way of life and these people hold events to revive Roman life from time to time at Roman archeological sites in Germany. They were holding one of these events on the day we visited Villa Rustica. They were dressed in Roman cloths and had examples of Roman foods and artifacts. They shared their knowledge of Roman times with those who were visiting the site that day.
A German man named Robert, who has worked with the USO tour office at Vogelweh near Kaiserslautern, volunteered to be a guide for us at the Villa Rustica site. He spoke very good English which helped us a lot in understanding the things at this site. He is one of the people who likes to recreate Roman life.
